June Starts Negative

June 2, 2008

All three indices posted declines deeper than -1 percent today, with the NASDAQ losing -1.23 percent, in contrast to the past four days, when both the NASDAQ and the S&P500 moved ahead. But it was the second loss in a row for the DJIA.

Only four Mondays, so far in 2008, saw all three indices turning down – all told, seven Mondays had negative closes for the DJIA and the S&P500, and 9 for the NASDAQ, but just four when all three indices went down at the same time.

As for Tuesdays, there are an even number of days when these three indices turned up and went down: eight. But the record for their separate performance in 2008 is 12 ups for the NASDAQ, 10 for the S&P500 and just 9 for the DJIA.

DJIA -1.06 percent

NASDAQ -1.23 percent

S&P500 -1.05 percent
